Korner Grocery Fire

42 photos in this gallery.

At the end of April in 2012, a fire destroyed a historic Saint John building called the Lyric Theatre. These are photos of that morning by Mike Capson who lived down the street at the time.

The theatre, built in the 1800s, had to be torn down after the fire, along with the connected building from the same time era. According to Sgt. Dave Brooker of the major crime unit in Saint John, the fire was deliberately set.

It was built after the Great Fire of 1877 by Dr. Edgar Berryman and built as a stage theatre. It operated as film theatre named Lyric Theatre until the 1920’s.
